It’s important to know what’s in the water and air of your home or prospective home. Water and air quality testing can help you make informed, educated decisions regarding the water treatment options for your home and prevent potential health problems caused by impure air or water.
For a reasonable additional charge, I can perform the following additional tests:
Radon in Water or Air
Radon is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas — the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US. It is invisible, tasteless and odorless. It comes from the natural (radioactive) breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water and gets into the air you breathe. Radon can creep into any type of building — homes, offices, and schools — and result in a high indoor radon level.
Testing is the only way to know if you and your family are at risk from radon. EPA and the Surgeon General recommend testing all homes below the third floor for radon. EPA also recommends testing in schools.
The EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency) provides a comprehensive overview of the risks of radon.
Well systems can become contaminated by bacteria and by pests such as snakes, spiders and other animals that have gotten into the well. It’s a good idea to test your well annually to monitor the water quality and make sure it is safe for your family. You should be sure the water of any home your decide to purchase is safe to drink.
I offer a drinking water analysis to check potability (coliform bacteria and ecoli) in addition to inorganic chemicals such as arsenic, chloride, copper, flouride, hardness, iron, lead, manganese, nitrate, sodium and uranium.
The FHA typically requires a minimum of water testing for nitrite, nitrate, lead and potability.
